Entering the novel “The Giver” – The 1st chapter as exposition

1) What do expect from a good beginning of a novel? Find aspects with a partner.

2) What was your reaction after reading the 1st chapter of “The Giver”? 
    Pick three adjectives and explain to your partner! You can add your own, if you like.

Definition:
EXPOSITION: Exposition is the part of a story that introduces important background information to the readers; for example, information about the setting (time and place) and the characters. Often the main theme or conflict is also introduced or at least hinted at (angedeutet).
